The VST is for loading inside of Live, and the standalone is for use on its own, outside of any DAW. If you are on Windows, the installer will ask you where you would like the PLAY VST, as well as the PLAY Standalone Application to be installed.

If you are using 32-bit Live 9, you MUST install the 32-bit PLAY plugin (from the 64-bit PLAY v4.1.6 installer), or if you are using 64-bit Live 9, you MUST install the 64-bit PLAY plugin, also from the 64-bit installer. The 64-bit PLAY plugin installer will allow you to choose to install EITHER the 32-bit, or the 64-bit plugin of PLAY. If your OPERATING SYSTEM is 64-bit, you NEED to choose the 64-bit version of PLAY v4.1.6, EVEN IF YOU ARE USING THE 32-bit VERSION OF LIVE 9. If you don't know, it's probably 32-bit, but you should double check. You have to know whether you're using 32-bit, or 64-bit Live 9. This is the plugin that will actually load your EW/QL samples from any of their releases, including Symphonic Orchestra. That link is to the official support/downloads page. I always get the current version online here. I wouldn't bother with the actual VST/AU plugin on the disks as it's likely pretty outdated by now, though it's fine if they happen to install by default with the library. Install all of your sample libraries here, obviously. I recommend being extremely organized with this stuff to make it easier on yourself - create a main "Music Production" folder, and then inside it, a "Sample Libraries" folder. It'll take a while since the library is pretty huge and has multiple install DVDs. This can be anywhere you'd like as you'll point the plugin to it inside Live later. Took me a few tries to figure it out.įirst, install the sound library itself. It's actually a little finicky, lots of people have trouble with this one.
